Mother and Daughter Families Day

Saturday, May 8, 2021

Family Days at Tilikum are a great opportunity for parents and their children to take a break from regular schedules and experience life side by side. Activities include meals together, speaker and worship sessions, waterfront activities (canoeing and fishing), nature hikes, Challenge Course activities, and crafts.

Tilikum offers Family Days instead of Family Weekends this year to provide families an ideal opportunity to continue to experience relational and spiritual renewal while complying with State and Federal guidelines due to COVID-19.There will be no Zoom meetings this year, only a full Camp-like day in Tilikum’s pastoral setting with group and individual activities and the presence of God. Cost of Family Day has been dramatically reduced for this abbreviated program to allow most families to participate. We expect a return to regular Family Weekend programs in 2022. Children attending these camps should at least be entering 1st grade.

shaun-davis-heather-adovnikSpeakers – Shaun Davis and Heather Adovnik

Shaun and Heather are a mother-daughter team that comes from a lineage of strong women of faith. Their ancestors emigrated to the United States to practice their Amish-Mennonite beliefs free of persecution, and generation after generation have passed down the gifts of Christianity and a high value on family relationships.

Shaun has been married for 38 years and has three adult daughters, one son-in-law, and 3 grandchildren. Heather has been married for 16 years and has three children, ages 7 months, 6 and 9 years old.

Shaun and Heather are both George Fox University alumni. Heather earned her masters in teaching and is a high school math teacher through Oregon Charter Academy. Shaun earned her doctorate in clinical psychology. She recently opened a private practice in Newberg with a focus on family and couples therapy.

debbie-dingmanWorship Leader – Debbie Dingman

Debbie has enjoyed camp cooking ministry for 26 years, 11 of them here at Tilikum. She and her husband Ron have remodeled a 1896 Victorian farmhouse in Newberg and raised their son and daughter there. They treasure their 3 grandsons ages 11, 7 and 5. She is passionate about music and how God uses it to speak to us and call us into worship. A love for Irish music developed a desire to learn the concertina and penny whistle although piano, drums, and percussion are her first instruments. She is a worship leader at 2nd Street Community Church in Newberg, OR and enjoys playing Irish sessions in the area. She also loves to travel, the beach, quilting, landscape design, and any excuse to have tea or go out to a restaurant.
