Camp Tilikum “drain the lake” fishing derby
Since Camp Tilikum’s inception, Lake Tilikum has only been drained once in 1982 to fix the valve at the bottom of the lake. This year we need to make similar repairs.
The why
Tilikum’s main purpose is to offer camp programs for children and adults. Tilikum does not promote fishing in the local community and is not open to the public for fishing. However, this event is open to “friends of Tilikum” who also happen to be interested in fishing.
This is a very rare fishing derby fundraiser. There are significant costs to the repair of the lake valve and we want to be responsible stewards of these fishing resources. Tilikum will be lowering the water level some for the derby, and the further drain the lake to perform the work.
This event creates a once in a lifetime opportunity to fish for the likes of crappie, pumpkin seed, and yes, even some lunker large-mouth bass.

Tilikum has about 18 canoes available. If you want to bring your own small watercraft (no gas motors), it must be light enough for you to carry it down to the water as we do not have a boat launch or trailer access to the water. Bring your muck boots, as you can see from the above photos from 1982, access to the lake will be very muddy.
Life jackets must be worn per Oregon State Law. Bring your own or borrow one of Tilikum’s.
Bring a cooler filled with ice so you can pack your fish home for cleaning/eating.
No alcohol or other controlled substances.
Lifeguards will be available.
