Youth Summer Camps (grades 1-12)

Experience Creation. Establish Friendships. Unplug from Technology.

Every summer, over 2,500 kids come to experience the awe and wonder of God and his beautiful Creation on Tilikum’s 93 acres of wooded hiking trails, grassy meadows and pristine lake. We offer exciting and impactful day camps for elementary and middle school age kids and overnight camps at the high school level.

Tilikum Day Camps

For kids entering 1st – 6th grades.

“Thanks for a fun electronic-free week of camp. My kids come home exhausted and happy.”   – Day Camp Parent

Since the summer of 1972, Tilikum Day Camp has been providing Portland area kids with their first extended experience in God’s beautiful out-of-doors. Each week, small groups (10-12) of similarly aged kiddos explore our 93 acre camp under the careful guidance of our specially trained college age staff. Together, they encounter life-skill building (making friends, swimming, nature studies), Christ-centered truths, and a whole lot of fun!

Tilikum High Adventure Overnight Camps

For young adults entering 9th – 12th grades.

Tilikum’s Adventure Program is about helping high school-age youth discover their strengths and learn to work with others as a team.

High energy, yet thoughtful, group building activities led by specially trained college aged staff, develop social skills, friendships, and character qualities in an atmosphere of fun.

While trying to solve problems on low elements on the Challenge Course, campers learn effective communication and group processing. Led by trained facilitators, campers learn about their strengths and how to use them within a group setting.

Campers learn to be part of a team by learning to group belay, put on a harness and helmet, and safely spot and support their friends.

In the supportive environment of their small group, campers can choose to face personal obstacles on our High Challenge Course

After a day of hard play and fresh forest air, your high-schooler will retire to Tilikum’s remote Northridge tent camping facility for a good night’s sleep and be ready for the next adventure filled day.

Teenagers ask tough questions! At QUEST and High Adventure camp, campers have time each day to ponder what God is saying to them. Tilikum’s college age staff love to listen and gently direct campers to find their place in God’s story.

“Thanks for the great counselors and the way they speak to the campers. So caring. So different from other camps:  the casual structure, the great outdoor environment that is a natural for talking together about the Lord. It makes sense.”   – Tilikum Parent

Cost for Camp.

Realizing that families have different abilities to pay, Tilikum has instituted a three-tier fee program. Tiered pricing is intended to help families recognize the full cost of camp and then select the level that is most suitable for your family circumstances. By choosing to pay the full cost of camp, Tilikum is able to offer financial assistance to families in need. Select an appropriate tier for your family at the time of registration. There is a $35 Early Bird Discount if you register by May 1st.

Scholarships are Available.

Tilikum believes every student should have the opportunity to come experience God’s Creation at Camp. Tilikum has three-tier pricing because we recognize families have differing abilities to pay. If the subsidized rate is still not affordable for your family, additional financial assistance is available to those who qualify. Scholarship applications must be submitted at least one month prior to the week of camp. For more information contact Debbie Ford, Registrar by email, or call (503) 538-2763 ext. 107.

Staff and Safety.

Camper groups

The average adult to camper ratio is 6:1. Campers are carefully divided into age-appropriate groups of 10-14 that stay together for the duration of the week. Each group is led by carefully trained college-age Tilikum staff and a volunteer counselor.

Quality Staff

The Tilikum staff are selected for their desire and ability to work with children and their personal faith. They receive an intensive 2 week training and remain a paid Tilikum staff member for the entire summer. Staff are specifically trained in program safety (first aid, life-guarding, challenge course) and spiritual/personal development.

Health and Safety

Safety is our first priority at Tilikum. Tilikum is accredited by the American Camping Association (ACA) since 1977. To maintain our certification, we undergo a thorough review (up to 300 standards) of our operation from staff qualifications and training to emergency management. Here are just a few of the safety requirements we adhere to:

  • All staff are trained in first aid/CPR and emergency water safety
  • The waterfront is supervised by American Red Cross-certified lifeguards
  • Our challenge course staff are all trained to the standards of Association for Challenge Course Technology
  • A Health Manager is on site during Camp hours.
